    Z-Man
    Level 8

Since this seems to be a frequently asked question...

Easy way to start is with easily clicked options:
Using the in-game "Option" menu... turn off all the eye-candy, things like blood, brass..., turn on fast sky. And for anything that can be set to a low setting, pick "Low".

    Yvo has offered these suggestions:
(note that some of these overlap with what is available in the menu)

    //FPS increase settings
    seta r_picmip "3"
    seta r_lodBias "2"
    seta r_lodCurveError "60"
    seta r_roundImagesDown "1"
    seta r_drawSun "0"
    seta r_fastSky "1"
    seta r_facePlaneCull "0"
    seta r_detailTextures "0"
    seta r_textureMode "GL_NEAREST"
    seta r_mode "4"
    seta r_subdivisions "999"
    seta r_lodscale "5"
    seta r_lodcurveerror "250"
    seta r_stencilbits "0"
    seta r_colorbits "16"
    seta r_texturebits "16"
    seta r_gamma "1.7"
    seta r_simpleMipMaps "0"

    seta cg_atmosphericEffects "0"
    seta cg_wolfparticles "0"
    seta cg_coronas "0"
    seta cg_gibs "0"
    seta cg_brassTime "0"

    seta b_muzzleflash "0"

    And nlPure offered these suggestions:
(note there may also be some overlap here)

seta r_Dipslayrefresh "85" //must be set at the same hz as your monitor
    seta r_intensity "1.5"
    seta r_picmip "3"
    seta r_gamma "3"
    seta r_ignorehwgamma "1"
    seta r_overBrightBits "2"
    seta r_mapoverbrightbits "3"
    seta r_subdivisions "20"
    seta r_lodbias "1"
    seta r_lodCurveError "60"
    seta r_texturemode "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_NEAREST"
    seta r_dynamiclight "0"
    seta r_drawSun "0"
    seta r_fastsky "1"
    seta r_simpleMipMaps "0"
    seta r_detailtextures "0"
    seta r_roundImagesDown "1"
    seta r_ignoreFastPath "0"

Another site offers further "tweaking": http://4newbies.planetwolfenstein.gamespy.com/tweaking.htm
This offers some views of what the different settings look like.

And, just a general word of caution...
One may want to make changes one step at a time as opposed to making all changes at once. Some have gone with changing everything at once and ended up not liking the results.
